IPTV 4K, HDR and 120Hz: How to Get Smoother Playback
📖 Table of Contents

You may see “4K IPTV” everywhere, but resolution alone does not guarantee smooth playback. Your display, device hardware, video codec, streaming protocol and IPTV player all work together.

What does 4K IPTV mean?

4K means a higher display resolution than Full HD. A 4K television is only one part of the chain; the device and player also need to process the stream efficiently.

Why does HDR matter?

HDR technologies such as HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision can provide a wider brightness and color range when the content and playback hardware support them.

What does 120Hz do?

A 120Hz display refreshes the screen more frequently. This can make fast motion appear smoother. It does not mean that every IPTV stream is produced at 120 frames per second.

Codecs and playback engines

Modern codecs such as H.265 and AV1 can deliver better compression efficiency. HLS and DASH are also widely used for internet video delivery.

AFKast uses the mpv playback engine and supports hardware-accelerated playback for H.265, AV1, 4K HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision on compatible devices.

Tips for smoother 4K IPTV

Check your device and display capabilities, use a stable internet connection and make sure your player supports hardware acceleration.
